A pair of orthotic is a corrective device that are inserted inside a shoe to help to correct structural and/or functional foot deformities.
1. To increase the stability of feet by holding the feet in corrected (neutral ) position
2. To correct any limb length discrepancy
3. To increase arch support
4. To decrease any increased localized pressure on the bottom of the feet
Sometimes correction of the feet with orthotic therapy may relieve knee pain, lower back pain, and/or neck pain if the symptoms were caused by structural / functional foot deformities.
There are 2 types of orthotics, pre-fabricated orthotics and custom made orthotics. While pre-fabricated orthotics are cheaper they may not be effective enough to correct the deformity.
Various structural and functional tests are performed during biomechanical assessment and your feet are casted to send to lab. After a couple of weeks of manufacturing with the prescription from our podiatrists by the lab the orthotics will be dispensed once the good fit are confirmed.
