What are shin splints?
Shin splints is a condition where pain is felt along the front part of lower leg.
What are the signs and symptoms of shin splints?
The signs and symptoms of shin splints include tenderness or soreness along the inner side of lower leg.
What causes shin splints?
Shin splints are usually caused by recent or sudden increase in activities that cause stress along the inner part of bone of lower leg (tibia) where the muscle (tibialis anterior) is inserted on the bone.
How to treat shin splints?
Shin splints are treated with rest, ice therapy, oral medication, shockwave therapy, or prolotherapy.
How to prevent shin splints?
Shin splints could be prevented by proper stretching exercises, gradual increase in intensity of activities, weight control, and a pair of orthotics to decrease the stress on the bone by the muscle.
